What is an Out-Wintering Pad?
An out wintering pad (OWP) is an alternative method to conventional sheds for accommodating livestock.
The OWP provides an outdoor drained lying area for livestock on a bed of
woodchips. The effluent produced from an OWP
has a high concentration of
pollutants. Underneath the drainage system the effluent is contained by a liner
(compacted
subsoil or a geomembrane liner), the effluent is collected and
stored before being recycled onto a
suitable crop.
